Starting off with Dubai, the administration has recently paid attention to merchants known for engaging in illicit liquor trade. Conducted by Khalid Salem Selaiteem, the Environmental Emergency office attempts to put a close to the selling of about 200,000 bottles of illegal alcohol. This is particularly because of the increasing incidences of crime that involve illicit merchants. Even though this specific business remains attractive because of the big earnings one may get, the rising rivalry in this market creates tension, strong enough to force a bootlegger to eliminate his firm opponents. Just this year 2011, an Indian trader was placed to death sentence after found guilty of burying 2 of his rivals alive in the desert of Dubai. Selaiteen and his team are working really hard to fight off this illegal alcohol issue. The group is sure that they are going to fully accomplish this goal by the end of year 2012. They also warned potential bootleggers who might get attracted into this kind of market.
On the lighter side of UAE news, Kim Kadarshian, a famous TV host, expressed her excitement about her first tour in Dubai. She mentioned her liking for Middle Eastern cuisine, and is looking forward to eating the native food there. Kim also mentioned her potential plans of beginning a business there-a new clothing line maybe? The events on the said trip will be watched on her reality TV show, "Keeping Up With The Kadarshians". So that's the recent update for Dubai News.
Moving on to Abu Dhabi, five people didn't show up in a trial, after being charged for writing comments that jeopardize public order. The comments on their blogs also express their conflict with the administration as well as insults to the president. Despite their absence, the hearing still resumed on October 2, 2011. An official of the Telecommunications Regulatory Authority purportedly testified about the comments claimed to have been made by the five accused.
Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi, a luxurious hotel faces lawsuit filed by a woman, claiming that they should be responsible for an accident that happened to her in 2008 while she's staying at the hotel. The name of the hotel is none other than Emirates Palace, and the person who filed a complaint is Natalie Smith. According to Natalie, she was opening the cupboard in the room where she stayed when something hard and heavy fell and hit her head. Because of that incident, the woman had post-traumatic epilepsy, a condition that won't allow her to be on her own whenever she crosses a road or when taking a bath. Thus, she asks Dhs 20 million to compensate for her spouse leaving his business in order to care for her. While this case is still on a hearing, the regional director of Emirates Palace declined to comment on the issue.
