Phi Phi Leh Beach

By Jose Garces

I have seen many beautiful places in my journeys around the globe and one good day I watched a movie called The Beach by Leonardo Dicaprio and I fell in love with the location of the movie. If you have seen it then you know exactly what I am talking about. This location is called Phi Phi Leh . in Thailand and if you stick around with me you will discover some interesting facts about this island.

To be more specific in terms of location after all this is not a secret island as the movie features it; Phi Phi Island is located about 42 kilometres from mainland Krabi and 54 kilometres from Phuket.

How to get there

The closest inhabited area to Phi Phi Leh is Phi Phi Don and you can reach the island from there by kayaking. Otherwise if you are not stying at Phi Phi Don you can reach Phi Phi Leh from either Krabi or Phuket by boat and both journeys take approximately 2 hours.

Where to stay

Unfortunately for some there is no accommodation facilities in Phi Phi Leh and over night stays are not allowed in camping sites. However you could stay in Phi Phi Don, Krabi or Phuket and take day trips to this amazing island.

Best time to visit

The best time to visit Phi Phi is November to March when humidity and temperatures average 28C and cool breezes keep things comfortable. During September and early October there are frequent heavy downpours. Beaches, outdoor restaurants and streets are relatively uncluttered by visitors. And even at this time, there are long intervals of sunshine between the heavy showers. Anyway, plenty of low season activities, both water- and land-based, still offer themselves in Phi Phi during this wettest part of the summer season.
